About Upwards And Over

Upwards and Over springs from the illustrated imaginings of Stuart Cairns featuring a varying cast of creatures out and about on adventures away from the prying eyes of people. 

 Upwards and Over  is a place of play for me- I love sketching out animals, imagining some sort of life for them that we don't see, one filled with magic and adventure. I then make drypoint prints of the drawings- the odd marks, accidents and strong pigments adding to the atmosphere of the images. I never really make the same image twice- although the underlying illustration might stay the same I always add different mono print marks and use different colours and effects for endless variation. Often this means the same print appears in multiple colours - but each time has a different feel.
